Resound hearing aids: the full range at the lowest prices in the UK

Resound is one of the most innovative hearing aid brands in the world.

Designed and developed in Denmark as part of the GN Group, Resound has a long history of industry firsts, including the first open-fit hearing aids, the first Made for iPhone connectivity, and, most recently, the first active Auracast broadcast streaming in a hearing aid.

Its newest range, Resound Sensia, goes a step further: a hearing aid that recognises when a conversation has become hard work and switches on its AI noise reduction by itself.

At The Hearing Shop, we stock the full Resound range at up to 60% less than the high street.

Every Resound hearing aid is programmed to your personal hearing test results by one of our qualified UK audiologists before it’s dispatched, with remote fine-tuning included as standard and no clinic visit needed at any stage.

About Resound

Resound is part of the GN Group, a Danish company with over 150 years of history in audio and communications technology.

Resound has consistently led the market in natural sound quality and wireless connectivity, and its philosophy of “Organic Hearing” underpins its approach to sound processing: working with the brain’s natural hearing abilities rather than trying to override them.

The brand’s current flagship is the Resound Vivia Pro, which introduced a dedicated Deep Neural Network (DNN) AI chip to the Resound range for the first time, alongside the world’s first active Auracast broadcast connection in a hearing aid.

Resound’s newest range, Sensia, builds on the same AI chip and adds automatic decision-making, so the hearing aid chooses when to use its AI rather than leaving it to you.

Why choose Resound hearing aids?

Dedicated AI processing

The Resound Vivia Pro features a dedicated Deep Neural Network (DNN) AI chip trained on more than 13 million spoken sentences.

Its Intelligent Focus feature identifies who you’re facing and brings their voice forward, even in busy, multi-directional noise.

According to Resound’s own research, 64% of users demonstrated improved speech understanding in noisy environments compared to other AI-equipped hearing aids.

With Sensia, Resound’s AI noise reduction is no longer reserved for the top tier. Sensia 9 switches it on automatically, while Sensia 7 includes it in a Hearing in Noise programme you select yourself (both in the rechargeable microRIE style).

Intelligent All-Around (new with Sensia)

Sensia 9’s Intelligent All-Around brings three systems together and runs them without any input from you.

AcoustIQ sound sensing reads the room, four-microphone focus forms a beam towards the person you’re facing, and AI noise reduction separates their voice from competing chatter.

Because it uses the direction you’re facing as a clue, it’s designed to avoid locking onto the loudest voice in a busy room.

In a Resound study of 20 hearing aid users, 80% found the speaker in front of them most audible with Sensia, even with an equally loud voice to the side.

Intelligent All-Around is only available in the rechargeable Sensia 9 microRIE.

AcoustIQ sound sensing (new with Sensia)

AcoustIQ is Resound’s environment classifier, shared across every Sensia tier.

Rather than just labelling a situation, it switches on the features that will help. Resound reports 91% classification accuracy in its own testing.

M&RIE technology

Resound’s M&RIE (Microphone and Receiver in Ear) places a small additional microphone directly in the ear canal alongside the receiver, rather than relying solely on the microphone behind the ear.

This means sound is gathered from where nature intended, which can improve localisation and produce a more natural listening experience, particularly for people with mild hearing loss.

Not all ear canal shapes are suited to M&RIE, and our audiologists can advise on whether it’s appropriate for you.

Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast

Resound is currently the only hearing aid manufacturer with an active Auracast connection rather than simply being Auracast-ready.

Auracast is an emerging standard that allows hearing aids to connect directly to public sound systems in cinemas, airports, and other venues.

Combined with Bluetooth LE Audio for direct streaming from iPhone and Android, Resound offers some of the most future-proof connectivity available in a hearing aid today.

Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast are available across all three Sensia levels.

360 All-Around Processing

Resound’s 360 processing gives you awareness of your full sound environment rather than just what’s in front of you.

Combined with FrontFocus and Ultra Focus directional features on premium and advanced tiers, you have the flexibility to take in your surroundings naturally or narrow your focus on a single voice when the situation calls for it.

In the Sensia range, 360 All-Around is on Sensia 9, Front Focus on Sensia 7, and Ultra Focus on Sensia 5.

Natural sound philosophy

Resound’s Organic Hearing philosophy is built around the idea that the best hearing aid experience comes from supporting the brain’s natural processing rather than working against it.

This shapes everything from how M&RIE gathers sound to how the DNN AI chip prioritises speech in the Vivia Pro and Sensia.

Resound hearing aids and streaming

Resound hearing aids connect directly to iPhone and Android smartphones for hands-free calling and audio streaming.

On the Sensia microRIE, TapControl lets you answer or end calls by tapping your ear, with compatible phones.

The Resound Smart 3D app gives you control over volume, programmes, and settings from your phone, and allows our audiologists to make remote adjustments to your hearing aids when needed.

It also includes an Auracast Assistant to help you find broadcast streams in public venues.

You can also use the Find My Hearing Aids feature within the app if you misplace a device.

The TV Streamer+ sends TV audio directly to your hearing aids at the volume you prefer, without affecting what anyone else in the room can hear.

Resound hearing aid FAQs

Are Resound hearing aids any good?

Resound is consistently rated among the top hearing aid brands by UK audiologists, and its reputation for natural sound quality is well established.

The Vivia Pro introduced the brand’s first dedicated AI chip and the world’s first active Auracast connection, making it a genuinely significant step forward from the already well-regarded Nexia.

The newest range, Sensia, builds on that platform with AI that switches on automatically when conversations get difficult (Sensia 9), and brings AI noise reduction to the advanced tier (Sensia 7).

For anyone who values natural sound, reliable connectivity, and future-proof technology, Resound is well worth considering.

What is the difference between the Resound Sensia and the Resound Vivia Pro?

Sensia 9 uses the same AI chip as the Vivia Pro 9.

The difference is automation: on the Vivia Pro, the strongest AI processing sits in a programme you select, while Sensia 9 decides for itself when to use it.

Resound also states that Sensia’s sound sensing has been refined.

If you already wear the Vivia Pro and are happy switching programmes yourself, the upgrade is harder to justify.

Our audiologists will give you an honest view based on your hearing test and how you listen day to day.

What is M&RIE, and is it right for me?

Most hearing aids pick up sound through a microphone positioned behind the ear. M&RIE adds a second microphone inside the ear canal itself, which is much closer to where your ear naturally gathers sound.

The difference this makes in practice is that your own voice can sound more natural, and it’s easier to tell which direction sounds are coming from.

It’s a genuinely clever idea, though it does depend on your ear canal being the right size and shape to accommodate it, and it tends to work best for mild hearing loss.

Our audiologists will tell you honestly whether it’s a good fit for your ears and your hearing profile.

Are Resound hearing aids waterproof?

Resound Vivia Pro and Sensia models are IP68-rated, meaning they’re protected against dust and can handle moisture, sweat, and light rain.

They’re not designed for swimming or submersion. Following the standard cleaning and maintenance guidance will help maintain this protection over time.

How do I change the wax filter on my Resound hearing aids?

To change the wax filter, remove the dome from the receiver, then take a new wax guard from the packet. Insert the darker end of the wax guard tool into the existing filter, twist lightly clockwise, and pull out the old filter.

Turn the wax guard tool over to the clean end and press the new filter into the metal slot until it clicks into place.

If you’re not sure how to do this, our team is happy to talk you through it.

How do I get my Resound hearing aids programmed?

When you buy from The Hearing Shop, your hearing aids arrive pre-programmed by our qualified UK audiologists using your personal audiogram. They’re ready to wear straight out of the box.

Once you’re wearing them day-to-day, our audiologists follow up remotely to fine-tune anything that needs adjusting at a time that suits you. There’s no clinic visit needed at any stage.

What Resound accessories are compatible with my hearing aids?

The main accessories compatible with current Resound models include the TV Streamer+ for television audio, the Multi-Mic+ (which now has a replaceable battery) for challenging listening situations such as meetings and lectures, and the Micro Mic for one-to-one conversations in noisy environments.

The Sensia range works with Resound’s current accessories, including the TV Streamer+ and Multi-Mic+.

Compatibility varies slightly by model, so our team can confirm what works with your specific hearing aids.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re experiencing significant hearing loss in both ears, you will need two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons behind our audiologist’s recommendation:

Localisation: Our brains rely on information from both ears to accurately determine the source of sounds. We can precisely locate where a sound is coming from by analysing the small time delays and differences in loudness between sounds reaching each ear. For example, if one ear has better hearing than the other, it becomes challenging to understand the direction of sounds.

Head Shadow Effect: High-frequency sounds, crucial for speech clarity, cannot effectively bend around your head, unlike low-frequency sounds. For example, if someone is speaking on your unaided side, you might hear that they are talking but struggle to understand what they are saying.

Reduced Amplification: A phenomenon called “binaural summation” means that when using two balanced hearing aids, your brain provides a natural boost of around three decibels by combining the signals, which means that the hearing aids can operate at lower, more natural volume settings when compared to a single hearing aid.

Sound Quality: Human hearing is designed for stereo perception. Hearing from only one side sounds less natural to us and can impact our overall auditory experience.

Noise Reduction: Our brains naturally possess a built-in noise reduction mechanism, which works most effectively when it receives sound input from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with a high-quality hearing aid, it becomes challenging to hear clearly in noisy environments as your brain attempts to process all sounds, including background noise, instead of filtering them out.

For many, the main advantage of using a rechargeable hearing aid is its sheer convenience. We’ve grown accustomed to charging our phones and other devices overnight, and a rechargeable hearing aid aligns with this familiar routine.

This convenience is especially beneficial for those who have limited dexterity or finger-related issues since standard hearing aid batteries can be quite small and challenging to manipulate.

However, one drawback is that there’s no immediate solution if you forget to charge your hearing aid. In most cases, a 30-minute charge provides at least two to three hours of power, but if you tend to regularly forget to charge devices, traditional batteries might be a better fit for you.

In general, the number of channels in a hearing aid is a topic that often comes up, as they play a crucial role in improving your ability to hear and understand speech in various listening environments.  Channels are frequently used by audiologists to simplify the explanation of why one hearing aid might be considered superior to another. However, the concept of channels is more intricate than it may seem.

Hearing aids serve to amplify sounds at various frequencies to different degrees. Since most people experience greater hearing loss in high frequencies compared to low frequencies, more amplification is often required in the higher ranges. These sound frequencies are categorised into separate bands or channels, with hearing aids being adjusted to deliver the precise amplification needed for each frequency level.

Having fewer channels makes this adjustment less precise and means the device is more of a basic hearing aid.  Therefore, the hearing aid would offer limited additional features and is typically suitable for situations like one-on-one conversations in quiet environments.

Most modern hearing aids use channels to provide a more natural and comfortable listening experience. With precise frequency control, hearing aids can maintain the natural balance of sounds, ensuring that environmental sounds, speech and other auditory cues sound lifelike and clear.

Another example of how modern hearing aids optimise channels is automation.  Hearing aids that are able to automatically adapt to various situations.  For example, in a quiet environment, they will focus on speech clarity, whilst in a noisy environment they will switch to emphasising on noise reduction.

The number of channels is just one aspect to consider; the overall technology package and the way the audiologists program the devices are equally important.  Different hearing aid manufacturers take diverse approaches, and the number of channels is not necessarily an indicator of quality, but how they are configurated to improve your hearing and quality of life.

It’s a really simple, hassle-free process that only takes a few steps.  All you have to do is choose your hearing aids from our wide range of options, we sell all of the latest models from the top brands, but with the lowest prices in the UK.

Send us your latest hearing test results and our audiologists will then expertly program your hearing aids based on your level of hearing loss, preferences and specific needs.  We will then post your hearing aids directly to you.

Once you receive your new hearing aids, our audiologists will fine-tune your devices remotely at a time that suits you.  You can then enjoy better hearing on a better budget with a 60-day returns policy – so you can wear your hearing aids with confidence and peace of mind.
