Free phone consultation with hearing test results
The first part of the process is contacting us for your free phone consultation to ensure we can help support you in selecting the most suitable hearing aids.
Our audiologist will request your latest hearing test results so they can analyse your results using specialised software and pre-program your hearing aids based on those results.
Please note, Puretone hearing aids are already pre-programmed for mild to moderate or moderate to severe hearing loss.
We can then provide a preliminary assessment, ensuring you have a clear understanding of our hearing aid options available online.

Fitting
Upon receiving your hearing aids, which have already been pre-programmed using your hearing test results, they are ready for immediate use, and you can put them in straight away.

If necessary, we can make remote adjustments there and then to further customise your hearing aids to your personal preferences. This excludes Puretone hearing aids.
Reprogramming
Sometimes further appointments are needed to fine-tune the aids once you are more used to wearing them.
Our hearing aid customer service includes complimentary reprogramming and readjustment of your hearing aids through remote assistance with one of our audiologists at a convenient time for you. This excludes Puretone hearing aids.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re experiencing significant hearing loss in both ears, you will need two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons behind our audiologist’s recommendation:
Localisation: Our brains rely on information from both ears to accurately determine the source of sounds. We can precisely locate where a sound is coming from by analysing the small time delays and differences in loudness between sounds reaching each ear. For example, if one ear has better hearing than the other, it becomes challenging to understand the direction of sounds.
Head Shadow Effect: High-frequency sounds, crucial for speech clarity, cannot effectively bend around your head, unlike low-frequency sounds. For example, if someone is speaking on your unaided side, you might hear that they are talking but struggle to understand what they are saying.
Reduced Amplification: A phenomenon called “binaural summation” means that when using two balanced hearing aids, your brain provides a natural boost of around three decibels by combining the signals, which means that the hearing aids can operate at lower, more natural volume settings when compared to a single hearing aid.
Sound Quality: Human hearing is designed for stereo perception. Hearing from only one side sounds less natural to us and can impact our overall auditory experience.
Noise Reduction: Our brains naturally possess a built-in noise reduction mechanism, which works most effectively when it receives sound input from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with a high-quality hearing aid, it becomes challenging to hear clearly in noisy environments as your brain attempts to process all sounds, including background noise, instead of filtering them out.
For many, the main advantage of using a rechargeable hearing aid is its sheer convenience. We’ve grown accustomed to charging our phones and other devices overnight, and a rechargeable hearing aid aligns with this familiar routine.
This convenience is especially beneficial for those who have limited dexterity or finger-related issues since standard hearing aid batteries can be quite small and challenging to manipulate.
However, one drawback is that there’s no immediate solution if you forget to charge your hearing aid. In most cases, a 30-minute charge provides at least two to three hours of power, but if you tend to regularly forget to charge devices, traditional batteries might be a better fit for you.
In general, the number of channels in a hearing aid is a topic that often comes up, as they play a crucial role in improving your ability to hear and understand speech in various listening environments. Channels are frequently used by audiologists to simplify the explanation of why one hearing aid might be considered superior to another. However, the concept of channels is more intricate than it may seem.
Hearing aids serve to amplify sounds at various frequencies to different degrees. Since most people experience greater hearing loss in high frequencies compared to low frequencies, more amplification is often required in the higher ranges. These sound frequencies are categorised into separate bands or channels, with hearing aids being adjusted to deliver the precise amplification needed for each frequency level.
Having fewer channels makes this adjustment less precise and means the device is more of a basic hearing aid. Therefore, the hearing aid would offer limited additional features and is typically suitable for situations like one-on-one conversations in quiet environments.
Most modern hearing aids use channels to provide a more natural and comfortable listening experience. With precise frequency control, hearing aids can maintain the natural balance of sounds, ensuring that environmental sounds, speech and other auditory cues sound lifelike and clear.
Another example of how modern hearing aids optimise channels is automation. Hearing aids that are able to automatically adapt to various situations. For example, in a quiet environment, they will focus on speech clarity, whilst in a noisy environment they will switch to emphasising on noise reduction.
The number of channels is just one aspect to consider; the overall technology package and the way the audiologists program the devices are equally important. Different hearing aid manufacturers take diverse approaches, and the number of channels is not necessarily an indicator of quality, but how they are configurated to improve your hearing and quality of life.
It’s a really simple, hassle-free process that only takes a few steps. All you have to do is choose your hearing aids from our wide range of options, we sell all of the latest models from the top brands, but with the lowest prices in the UK.
Send us your latest hearing test results and our audiologists will then expertly program your hearing aids based on your level of hearing loss, preferences and specific needs. We will then post your hearing aids directly to you.
Once you receive your new hearing aids, our audiologists will fine-tune your devices remotely at a time that suits you. You can then enjoy better hearing on a better budget with a 60-day returns policy – so you can wear your hearing aids with confidence and peace of mind.
At The Hearing Shop, we are dedicated to providing the best customer service and care in the industry. Unlike some other online hearing aid companies, we have a full-time designating professional audiologist who remotely programs all of our customer’s hearing aids.
