Phonak EON Sphere E70 hearing aids overview

If your days involve normal conversation, family time, and moderate background noise rather than consistently loud, crowded rooms, the Phonak EON Sphere E70 hearing aids are built with exactly that in mind.

Launched in September 2026, they are the mid-tier Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) hearing aids, which means the main body sits comfortably behind your ear with just a thin wire and speaker in the ear canal.

Sharing the same underlying platform as Phonak’s EON Sphere E90, but are tuned for everyday listening rather than the most demanding environments.

Key features of the EON Sphere E70, at a glance:

  • Suitable for: Mild to profound hearing loss
  • Dedicated AI chip for speech-in-noise separation
  • Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 technology
  • AutoSense OS AI 8.0 automatic environment adjustment
  • Battery life: Up to 38 hours (varies with streaming use)
  • Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth LE Audio (iPhone and Android)
  • Auracast-ready for compatible public venues
  • Rechargeable model
  • EasyGuard dome compatible
  • Colour choices: Sand beige, sandalwood, chestnut, champagne, silver grey, graphite grey, velvet black
  • Works with: Phonak Roger wireless microphones
  • Programmed remotely by a qualified UK HCPC-registered audiologist, based on your latest hearing test results

The same core technology, tuned differently

At the heart of the EON Sphere E70 is a dedicated processing chip, separating speech from background noise using genuine dedicated hardware rather than relying solely on the aid’s general processor.

The EON Sphere E70 uses this to power Spheric Speech Clarity, Phonak’s technology for pulling out and enhancing the person speaking around you.

The underlying hardware is identical to the top of the range, but the strength of the speech-in-noise processing is set at a level suited to everyday situations rather than the most extreme ones.

It’s not about missing out on capability; it’s about matching the processing to how you actually use your hearing day to day.

Spheric Speech Clarity, at the EON Sphere E70 level

Phonak offers Spheric Speech Clarity across its EON Sphere tiers, with the strength of processing varying by level.

EON Sphere E70 gives you genuine speech-in-noise performance without the fullest strength.

If your hardest listening moments are less about packed, multi-speaker rooms and more about everyday clarity in normal settings, EON Sphere E70 is worth discussing properly with one of our audiologists, rather than assuming you need to pay for the highest tier.

Built for background noise

Background noise is where most hearing aids struggle, and the EON Sphere E70 is built to handle it well, combining its dedicated chip with AutoSense OS AI 8.0, which automatically adjusts settings as your environment changes.

For many wearers, Phonak reports this can mean less listening fatigue by the end of the day, since you’re not straining to follow conversation or constantly reaching for the volume control.

Connectivity, including Auracast

The EON Sphere E70 offers Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth LE Audio streaming to both iPhone and Android, plus Auracast broadcast audio.

This is an emerging standard that allows compatible venues (think theatres, airports, and museums) to broadcast sound directly to your hearing aids as more locations adopt it.

Phone calls stream to both ears, and it’s also compatible with Phonak Roger wireless microphones, useful for meetings, lectures, or conversations at a distance.

Rechargeable convenience

The EON Sphere E70 is rechargeable, offering up to 38 hours of power on a single charge, depending on how much you stream.

Simply place them in their charger overnight, and they’re ready to go the next morning, no fiddling with small disposable batteries.

Programmed to your hearing test

Every hearing loss is different, and the EON Sphere E70 is programmed remotely by one of our qualified UK audiologists, based on your most recent hearing test results, so you don’t need to visit a clinic to get started.

The hearing aids also continue adapting throughout the day depending on your environment.

They’re EasyGuard dome compatible too, a sealed design that helps keep earwax away from the receiver, meaning less day-to-day upkeep.

Discreet, comfortable design

The EON Sphere E70 uses a sleek, discreet RIC (Receiver-in-Canal) design, comfortable for all-day wear, and is available in seven colours to blend naturally with hair and skin tones.

Such as Sand beige, sandalwood, chestnut, champagne, silver grey, graphite grey, velvet black and sienna red.

Who should consider the EON Sphere E70?

People who:

  • Want the latest Phonak connectivity and everyday speech clarity
  • Manage moderate background noise rather than consistently demanding environments
  • Prefer rechargeable convenience over disposable batteries
  • Have mild to profound hearing loss
  • Want strong performance without paying for the very top tier

Who might EON Sphere E70 be right for?

If you regularly find yourself in genuinely demanding environments, packed restaurants, big family gatherings, or loud social events, and following conversation there is your main frustration, the E90’s fuller strength of speech-in-noise processing would likely serve you better.

It’s also currently only available as an RIC style, so if a BTE (Behind-The-Ear) style suits your hearing loss or dexterity better, this specific model may not be the right fit.

Our audiologists can talk you through the alternatives during your free consultation.

“E70 gives you the same underlying hardware and connectivity as the top of the range, so it’s not a stripped-down device by any means.

What differs is the strength of the speech-processing technology, and that’s exactly the kind of thing your audiologist should test against your actual hearing loss and lifestyle, rather than you guessing from a spec sheet.

If you’re not spending most evenings in loud, crowded rooms, E70 may well give you everything you need.”

says Beverley Carter, HCPC-registered RHAD, Hearing Shop

A capable choice for everyday listening

The Phonak EON Sphere E70 gives you Phonak’s newest platform, dedicated noise-separation hardware, and broad connectivity, at a level built for genuine, everyday listening rather than the most extreme situations.

Whether E70 or the top E90 tier suits you better depends on your specific hearing loss and lifestyle, which is exactly what your hearing test results and a conversation with one of our audiologists can help establish.

Quick FAQs for the Phonak EON Sphere E70 hearing aids:

What’s the difference between the E90 and E70?

Both share the same core hardware and connectivity, but the strength of Spheric Speech Clarity processing is reduced at E70 compared with the top E90 tier.

One of our audiologists can help you judge which level suits your specific hearing loss and lifestyle.

Is the E70 a lower-quality hearing aid than the E90?

No. The E70 still includes the same dedicated processing chip, Spheric Speech Clarity, and full connectivity as the E90.

The difference is the strength of speech-in-noise processing, not a downgrade in build or core technology.

Can I try the E70 before committing?

Yes. Our 60-day free returns policy covers your trial period, so you can wear them in your everyday life before deciding they’re right for you.

Does the price include programming, or are there extra costs?

Your hearing aids are professionally programmed to your audiogram at no extra cost. There are no hidden fees for this as part of your order.

What colours is the E70 available in?

Seven shades: sand beige, sandalwood, chestnut, champagne, silver grey, graphite grey, and velvet black.

Free phone consultation with hearing test results

The first part of the process is contacting us for your free phone consultation to ensure we can help support you in selecting the most suitable hearing aids.

Our audiologist will request your latest hearing test results so they can analyse your results using specialised software and pre-program your hearing aids based on those results.

Please note, Puretone hearing aids are already pre-programmed for mild to moderate or moderate to severe hearing loss.

We can then provide a preliminary assessment, ensuring you have a clear understanding of our hearing aid options available online.

The main goal of this phone consultation is to support and guide you to make an informed decision about your hearing aid(s) purchase.

Fitting

Upon receiving your hearing aids, which have already been pre-programmed using your hearing test results, they are ready for immediate use, and you can put them in straight away.

Our audiologist will contact you to ensure that you are hearing clearly through them and understand how to put them in and perform basic maintenance.

If necessary, we can make remote adjustments there and then to further customise your hearing aids to your personal preferences. This excludes Puretone hearing aids.

Reprogramming

Sometimes further appointments are needed to fine-tune the aids once you are more used to wearing them.

Our hearing aid customer service includes complimentary reprogramming and readjustment of your hearing aids through remote assistance with one of our audiologists at a convenient time for you. This excludes Puretone hearing aids.

All manufacturer warranties are five years.

The specifics of each product’s warranty duration are outlined on the respective product page. It’s important to note that loss is not covered by a manufacturer’s warranty, and that Puretone hearing aids have a manufacturer’s warranty of 2 years.

Receiver wires and rechargeable batteries also have a warranty; these vary by brand.

Phonak: Receiver wires and rechargeable battery are covered for 2 years.

Resound: Receiver wires and rechargeable battery are covered for 5 years.

Once we have the repaired hearing aid back from them, we will return it to you. You have two options for postage;

  • Royal Mail Tracked costs £10
  • A courier costs £30

Please indicate your preference to your audiologist, and they will send you a payment link.

The same postal charge applies if we are sending you replacement receivers under the warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re experiencing significant hearing loss in both ears, you will need two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons behind our audiologist’s recommendation:

Localisation: Our brains rely on information from both ears to accurately determine the source of sounds. We can precisely locate where a sound is coming from by analysing the small time delays and differences in loudness between sounds reaching each ear. For example, if one ear has better hearing than the other, it becomes challenging to understand the direction of sounds.

Head Shadow Effect: High-frequency sounds, crucial for speech clarity, cannot effectively bend around your head, unlike low-frequency sounds. For example, if someone is speaking on your unaided side, you might hear that they are talking but struggle to understand what they are saying.

Reduced Amplification: A phenomenon called “binaural summation” means that when using two balanced hearing aids, your brain provides a natural boost of around three decibels by combining the signals, which means that the hearing aids can operate at lower, more natural volume settings when compared to a single hearing aid.

Sound Quality: Human hearing is designed for stereo perception. Hearing from only one side sounds less natural to us and can impact our overall auditory experience.

Noise Reduction: Our brains naturally possess a built-in noise reduction mechanism, which works most effectively when it receives sound input from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with a high-quality hearing aid, it becomes challenging to hear clearly in noisy environments as your brain attempts to process all sounds, including background noise, instead of filtering them out.

For many, the main advantage of using a rechargeable hearing aid is its sheer convenience. We’ve grown accustomed to charging our phones and other devices overnight, and a rechargeable hearing aid aligns with this familiar routine.

This convenience is especially beneficial for those who have limited dexterity or finger-related issues since standard hearing aid batteries can be quite small and challenging to manipulate.

However, one drawback is that there’s no immediate solution if you forget to charge your hearing aid. In most cases, a 30-minute charge provides at least two to three hours of power, but if you tend to regularly forget to charge devices, traditional batteries might be a better fit for you.

In general, the number of channels in a hearing aid is a topic that often comes up, as they play a crucial role in improving your ability to hear and understand speech in various listening environments.  Channels are frequently used by audiologists to simplify the explanation of why one hearing aid might be considered superior to another. However, the concept of channels is more intricate than it may seem.

Hearing aids serve to amplify sounds at various frequencies to different degrees. Since most people experience greater hearing loss in high frequencies compared to low frequencies, more amplification is often required in the higher ranges. These sound frequencies are categorised into separate bands or channels, with hearing aids being adjusted to deliver the precise amplification needed for each frequency level.

Having fewer channels makes this adjustment less precise and means the device is more of a basic hearing aid.  Therefore, the hearing aid would offer limited additional features and is typically suitable for situations like one-on-one conversations in quiet environments.

Most modern hearing aids use channels to provide a more natural and comfortable listening experience. With precise frequency control, hearing aids can maintain the natural balance of sounds, ensuring that environmental sounds, speech and other auditory cues sound lifelike and clear.

Another example of how modern hearing aids optimise channels is automation.  Hearing aids that are able to automatically adapt to various situations.  For example, in a quiet environment, they will focus on speech clarity, whilst in a noisy environment they will switch to emphasising on noise reduction.

The number of channels is just one aspect to consider; the overall technology package and the way the audiologists program the devices are equally important.  Different hearing aid manufacturers take diverse approaches, and the number of channels is not necessarily an indicator of quality, but how they are configurated to improve your hearing and quality of life.

It’s a really simple, hassle-free process that only takes a few steps.  All you have to do is choose your hearing aids from our wide range of options, we sell all of the latest models from the top brands, but with the lowest prices in the UK.

Send us your latest hearing test results and our audiologists will then expertly program your hearing aids based on your level of hearing loss, preferences and specific needs.  We will then post your hearing aids directly to you.

Once you receive your new hearing aids, our audiologists will fine-tune your devices remotely at a time that suits you.  You can then enjoy better hearing on a better budget with a 60-day returns policy – so you can wear your hearing aids with confidence and peace of mind.

At The Hearing Shop, we are dedicated to providing the best customer service and care in the industry.  Unlike some other online hearing aid companies, we have a full-time designating professional audiologist who remotely programs all of our customer’s hearing aids.

With 10 years of remote fitting experience, your hearing aids will be programmed by an audiologist you can trust. Giving you peace of mind and confidence that your hearing aids will be reliable and support you and your hearing.
