Description

Phonak Infinio Ultra i30 R hearing aids overview

The Phonak Infinio Ultra i30 R hearing aids are the essential entry-level model, designed with simplicity and reliability in mind.

They are ideal for people with simpler hearing needs who spend most of their time in quieter, more predictable environments.

The i30 R still offers the AI-trained AutoSense OS 7.0 for automatic adjustments throughout your day, and universal Bluetooth connectivity for streaming calls and media.

They don’t have the advanced features of more expensive models, but it works well for everyday listening at a lower price.

The Infinio Ultra i30 R might be just what you need if you want to have clear conversations at home, in small groups, or one-on-one instead of at loud restaurants or busy social events.

Quick highlights:

  • Suitable for mild to profound hearing loss

  • AI-trained AutoSense OS 7.0 with 8 automatic programmes

  • Up to 31 hours of rechargeable battery life

  • Universal Bluetooth connectivity (compatible with iPhone & Android)

  • 12 fine-tuning channels for basic fitting precision

Understanding the Infinio Ultra i30 R

The Phonak Infinio Ultra i30 R delivers the core essentials of modern hearing aid technology.

Its AutoSense OS 7.0 system uses artificial intelligence to recognise your listening environment and automatically switch between eight different programmes to match your surroundings.

Whether you’re relaxing at home, chatting in your car, or streaming music, the hearing aids adjust seamlessly without you needing to do anything.

AutoSense OS 7.0 includes:

  • Speech in Loud Noise

  • Music

  • Speech in Car

  • Comfort in Noise

  • Speech in Noise

  • Calm Situation

  • Streaming Speech

  • Streaming Music

With 12 fine-tuning channels, the i30 R allows your audiologist to make targeted adjustments to suit your hearing profile.

This level of precision is well-suited to straightforward hearing needs, though those with more complex audiograms may benefit from the additional channels available on higher models.

What the i30 R doesn’t include:

  • No SmartSpeech Technology – The i30 R doesn’t include SpeechSensor, Speech Enhancer, Dynamic Noise Cancellation, or Motion Sensor Hearing. These advanced tools improve speech clarity in busy environments.

  • No manual listening programmes – The i30 R relies entirely on AutoSense OS 7.0 and doesn’t include manual modes such as “Speech in Loud Noise.”

  • No SoundRelax or WindBlock – Comfort features that reduce environmental sounds are only available on higher models.

  • Limited noise management – The i30 R includes Phonak’s UltraZoom for directional focus but lacks the advanced noise reduction found in the i50 R, i70 R, and i90 R.

If you regularly spend time in noisier environments or group situations, you’ll find the i50 R or i70 R far better equipped to handle those challenges.

Ultra or Sphere – Which model is right for you?

  • Choose the Infinio Ultra R range if you want reliable sound quality, natural automatic adjustment, and Bluetooth streaming for everyday use in quieter environments.

  • Choose the Infinio Ultra Sphere if you need advanced speech enhancement in busy, multi-speaker settings and want the very best clarity in background noise.

Connectivity & Bluetooth features

The Infinio Ultra i30 R supports universal Bluetooth, working effortlessly with both iPhone and Android devices.

You can pair two devices simultaneously for calls, music, or media streaming, and enjoy stable, two-way communication directly through your hearing aids.

The i30 R is also ready for Auracast broadcast technology, so it’s built with future compatibility in mind.

Music & media

Thanks to its dedicated Music programme, the i30 R automatically detects when you’re listening to music and optimises sound for richer, more natural audio.

Streaming from your smartphone or tablet is simple and reliable, whether it’s calls, podcasts, or your favourite playlists.

Practical design & daily use

  • Rechargeable convenience: Up to 31 hours of power from a full charge.

  • EasyGuard protection: Prevents wax build-up, reducing the need for frequent maintenance.

  • IP68-rated durability: Resistant to water, sweat, and dust, though not suitable for swimming.

  • Roger compatibility: The i30 R can pair with Roger microphones via RogerDirect, allowing you to hear speech more clearly in meetings, lectures, or large gatherings – up to 25 metres away.

Who should consider the Infinio Ultra i30 R?

  • Are on a budget and want reliable, entry-level technology

  • Spend most of your day in calm environments at home or work

  • Need help with one-to-one or small group conversations

  • Want simple, automatic operation without manual adjustments

However, if you often find yourself in louder listening conditions, consider the Infinio Ultra i50 R or i70 R for better speech clarity and more advanced noise handling.

Other performance levels in the range:

Summary

The Phonak Infinio Ultra i30 R is a small, rechargeable hearing aid that is easy to use and works well.

It was made for people who want something easy to use and clear sound in quiet settings, but don’t want to pay for features they don’t need.

The i50 R or i70 R might be better long-term choices if you often listen in more complicated settings.

But if you have simple needs and want reliable performance from a top brand, the i30 R is a great choice.

Free phone consultation with hearing test results

The first part of the process is contacting us for your free phone consultation to ensure we can help support you in selecting the most suitable hearing aids.

Our audiologist will request your latest hearing test results so they can analyse your results using specialised software and pre-program your hearing aids based on those results.

Please note, Puretone hearing aids are already pre-programmed for mild to moderate or moderate to severe hearing loss.

We can then provide a preliminary assessment, ensuring you have a clear understanding of our hearing aid options available online.

The main goal of this phone consultation is to support and guide you to make an informed decision about your hearing aid(s) purchase.

Fitting

Upon receiving your hearing aids, which have already been pre-programmed using your hearing test results, they are ready for immediate use, and you can put them in straight away.

Our audiologist will contact you to ensure that you are hearing clearly through them and understand how to put them in and perform basic maintenance.

If necessary, we can make remote adjustments there and then to further customise your hearing aids to your personal preferences. This excludes Puretone hearing aids.

Reprogramming

Sometimes further appointments are needed to fine-tune the aids once you are more used to wearing them.

Our hearing aid customer service includes complimentary reprogramming and readjustment of your hearing aids through remote assistance with one of our audiologists at a convenient time for you. This excludes Puretone hearing aids.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re experiencing significant hearing loss in both ears, you will need two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons behind our audiologist’s recommendation:

Localisation: Our brains rely on information from both ears to accurately determine the source of sounds. We can precisely locate where a sound is coming from by analysing the small time delays and differences in loudness between sounds reaching each ear. For example, if one ear has better hearing than the other, it becomes challenging to understand the direction of sounds.

Head Shadow Effect: High-frequency sounds, crucial for speech clarity, cannot effectively bend around your head, unlike low-frequency sounds. For example, if someone is speaking on your unaided side, you might hear that they are talking but struggle to understand what they are saying.

Reduced Amplification: A phenomenon called “binaural summation” means that when using two balanced hearing aids, your brain provides a natural boost of around three decibels by combining the signals, which means that the hearing aids can operate at lower, more natural volume settings when compared to a single hearing aid.

Sound Quality: Human hearing is designed for stereo perception. Hearing from only one side sounds less natural to us and can impact our overall auditory experience.

Noise Reduction: Our brains naturally possess a built-in noise reduction mechanism, which works most effectively when it receives sound input from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with a high-quality hearing aid, it becomes challenging to hear clearly in noisy environments as your brain attempts to process all sounds, including background noise, instead of filtering them out.

For many, the main advantage of using a rechargeable hearing aid is its sheer convenience. We’ve grown accustomed to charging our phones and other devices overnight, and a rechargeable hearing aid aligns with this familiar routine.

This convenience is especially beneficial for those who have limited dexterity or finger-related issues since standard hearing aid batteries can be quite small and challenging to manipulate.

However, one drawback is that there’s no immediate solution if you forget to charge your hearing aid. In most cases, a 30-minute charge provides at least two to three hours of power, but if you tend to regularly forget to charge devices, traditional batteries might be a better fit for you.

In general, the number of channels in a hearing aid is a topic that often comes up, as they play a crucial role in improving your ability to hear and understand speech in various listening environments.  Channels are frequently used by audiologists to simplify the explanation of why one hearing aid might be considered superior to another. However, the concept of channels is more intricate than it may seem.

Hearing aids serve to amplify sounds at various frequencies to different degrees. Since most people experience greater hearing loss in high frequencies compared to low frequencies, more amplification is often required in the higher ranges. These sound frequencies are categorised into separate bands or channels, with hearing aids being adjusted to deliver the precise amplification needed for each frequency level.

Having fewer channels makes this adjustment less precise and means the device is more of a basic hearing aid.  Therefore, the hearing aid would offer limited additional features and is typically suitable for situations like one-on-one conversations in quiet environments.

Most modern hearing aids use channels to provide a more natural and comfortable listening experience. With precise frequency control, hearing aids can maintain the natural balance of sounds, ensuring that environmental sounds, speech and other auditory cues sound lifelike and clear.

Another example of how modern hearing aids optimise channels is automation.  Hearing aids that are able to automatically adapt to various situations.  For example, in a quiet environment, they will focus on speech clarity, whilst in a noisy environment they will switch to emphasising on noise reduction.

The number of channels is just one aspect to consider; the overall technology package and the way the audiologists program the devices are equally important.  Different hearing aid manufacturers take diverse approaches, and the number of channels is not necessarily an indicator of quality, but how they are configurated to improve your hearing and quality of life.

It’s a really simple, hassle-free process that only takes a few steps.  All you have to do is choose your hearing aids from our wide range of options, we sell all of the latest models from the top brands, but with the lowest prices in the UK.

Send us your latest hearing test results and our audiologists will then expertly program your hearing aids based on your level of hearing loss, preferences and specific needs.  We will then post your hearing aids directly to you.

Once you receive your new hearing aids, our audiologists will fine-tune your devices remotely at a time that suits you.  You can then enjoy better hearing on a better budget with a 60-day returns policy – so you can wear your hearing aids with confidence and peace of mind.

At The Hearing Shop, we are dedicated to providing the best customer service and care in the industry.  Unlike some other online hearing aid companies, we have a full-time designating professional audiologist who remotely programs all of our customer’s hearing aids.

With 10 years of remote fitting experience, your hearing aids will be programmed by an audiologist you can trust. Giving you peace of mind and confidence that your hearing aids will be reliable and support you and your hearing.
