Description
Unitron Smile Moxi RX 9 hearing aids overview
If you regularly find yourself struggling to follow conversations in busy restaurants, noisy workplaces, or large social gatherings, launching in July 2026, the Unitron Moxi S-RX 9 hearing aids are built for exactly that challenge.
This is the premium model in the Unitron Smile range, and it sits at the top for a specific reason: it’s the only tier with AutoFocus 360 and fully automatic HyperFocus, two features that work together in real time, without you pressing a button or opening an app, to deliver the clearest possible speech in the most demanding listening environments you’re likely to encounter.
A Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) hearing aid (meaning the main unit sits discreetly behind the ear with a thin wire connecting to a small speaker in the ear canal), the Moxi S-RX 9 is rechargeable, universally Bluetooth-connected, and programmed remotely to your personal hearing test results by one of our qualified UK audiologists.

Comparing the Smile Moxi RX 9 with the 7?
All Moxi S-RX hearing aids, regardless of technology level, share the same ERA chip, physical housing, Bluetooth system, charger, and rechargeable RIC design. They all include Noise Reduction, Speech Enhancement, and AutoFocus as standard.
The difference is in how they handle the harder listening situations.
The S-RX 9 is the only tier with AutoFocus 360, which means it can identify and enhance speech coming from any direction around you, not just from directly in front.
In a noisy group situation where someone to your side asks a question, or where two conversations are happening from different directions simultaneously, the S-RX 9 has the hardware and software to handle that. The S-RX 7 does not.
The other meaningful difference is HyperFocus. In very loud environments, this narrows all four microphones into a tight beam in front of you, dramatically improving what you can hear from the person you’re speaking to.
On the S-RX 9, it activates automatically when the hearing aids detect demanding noise. On the S-RX 7, you have to activate it manually.
For people who move between environments regularly and don’t want to manage their hearing aids manually, the S-RX 9’s fully automatic behaviour is the key advantage.
Integra OS: eight environments, all automatic
The Integra OS in the S-RX 9 recognises and adapts to eight distinct listening environments, all without any input from you:
- Conversation in Quiet
- Conversation in Noise
- Conversation in a Small Group
- Conversation in a Crowd
- Conversation in Loud Noise
- Music
- Noise
- Quiet
The final two, Conversation in a Crowd and Conversation in Loud Noise, are exclusive to Level 9.
The S-RX 7 covers up to Conversation in a Small Group.
In practice, this means the S-RX 9 adapts intelligently to the most demanding situations you can put it in. You don’t manage it. It manages itself.
SoundSonic 360 AI processing
Available exclusively at Level 9, SoundSonic360 is the AI processing system at the heart of the Moxi S-RX 9.
Powered by a deep neural network (DNN) chip, it identifies speech within background noise and keeps it clear in real time, so conversations remain followable even when the environment around you isn’t cooperating.
AutoFocus 360 and HyperFocus
AutoFocus 360 uses all four microphones across both hearing aids to identify where speech is coming from and enhance it dynamically from that direction.
Dynamic Noise Reduction works alongside it to reduce competing background sounds in real time.
HyperFocus takes a different approach. In very loud noise, the most effective strategy is sometimes to narrow your focus significantly.
HyperFocus directs all four microphones into a tight beam in front of you, giving you maximum clarity for the person you’re speaking with when the environment is at its most challenging.
On the S-RX 9, both engage automatically.
The hearing aids detect the environment, classify it, and apply the right processing without any input from you.
Universal Bluetooth connectivity and the Remote Plus app
The Moxi S-RX 9 connects via Bluetooth to both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.
You can pair up to eight devices and have two connected simultaneously.
The ERA chip delivers double the Bluetooth transmission range of previous Unitron models, and hands-free calling works reliably through the hearing aids themselves.
The Remote Plus app gives you additional control when you want it.
Adjust volume and comfort settings, change programmes, view a summary of your listening environment history and daily wear time, and use the Ratings feature to flag moments when the hearing aids are performing well or struggling.
That feedback goes directly to your audiologist for use during remote fine-tuning.
The Log It All feature records which listening environments you’ve spent time in, giving your audiologist a clearer picture of how your hearing aids are performing in your real life, rather than relying solely on a one-off consultation.
There are also two optional app programmes, SpeechSonic and NoiseSonic, that let you adjust how the hearing aids handle speech and background noise in the moment.
If you’d rather not manage your hearing aids at all, that’s fine too. The S-RX 9 is designed to work automatically.
Battery life and charging
A full charge from the included Charger RIC S takes around three hours and delivers up to 24 hours of use.
In everyday use, most wearers comfortably get through a full waking day on a single charge. The exact figure will depend on your degree of hearing loss and how much audio streaming you do.
If you travel frequently or are often away from home, the optional ChargerGo has its own built-in battery and charges your hearing aids on the go without needing a mains socket.
This is not included in the standard price (£50 extra for this upgrade).
Accessories
The S-RX 9 is compatible with a range of Unitron accessories.
The TV Connector streams audio directly from your television to your hearing aids.
PartnerMic clips to a conversation partner for clearer one-to-one chat in noisy settings. The Remote Control allows discreet volume and setting adjustments without opening your phone.
Phonak Roger microphones are also supported for group conversations and workplace use.
EasyGuard domes and easy maintenance
The Moxi S-RX 9 is compatible with EasyGuard domes, which feature a sealed membrane that prevents earwax from reaching the receiver.
This reduces the need for cleaning and extends the life of the component, making a real practical difference to your daily maintenance.
The hearing aids are also IP68 rated, meaning they’re dust-resistant and built to withstand splashes, rain, and perspiration without issue.
They won’t survive submersion, but everyday exposure is not a concern.
Who is the Unitron Moxi S-RX 9 suited to?
The S-RX 9 is worth considering if:
- You spend regular time in complex listening environments with multiple speakers and background noise
- You work in a noisy setting, attend meetings frequently, or have an active social life
- You want your hearing aids to manage themselves automatically, without requiring manual adjustments
- Previous hearing aids have worked well at home, but let you down in complicated, real-world situations
- You’ve been avoiding restaurants, pubs, gatherings, or events because the following conversation has become too exhausting
Who might it not suit?
If most of your listening happens at home, in one-to-one conversations, or in quieter everyday settings, the S-RX 9 is more hearing aid than you are likely to need.
The features that justify its price, automatic HyperFocus, AutoFocus 360, and the full eight Integra OS environments, earn their keep in complex, unpredictable noise.
For quieter lives, the S-RX 7 is likely the more sensible choice, and our audiologists will say so honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re experiencing significant hearing loss in both ears, you will need two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons behind our audiologist’s recommendation:
Localisation: Our brains rely on information from both ears to accurately determine the source of sounds. We can precisely locate where a sound is coming from by analysing the small time delays and differences in loudness between sounds reaching each ear. For example, if one ear has better hearing than the other, it becomes challenging to understand the direction of sounds.
Head Shadow Effect: High-frequency sounds, crucial for speech clarity, cannot effectively bend around your head, unlike low-frequency sounds. For example, if someone is speaking on your unaided side, you might hear that they are talking but struggle to understand what they are saying.
Reduced Amplification: A phenomenon called “binaural summation” means that when using two balanced hearing aids, your brain provides a natural boost of around three decibels by combining the signals, which means that the hearing aids can operate at lower, more natural volume settings when compared to a single hearing aid.
Sound Quality: Human hearing is designed for stereo perception. Hearing from only one side sounds less natural to us and can impact our overall auditory experience.
Noise Reduction: Our brains naturally possess a built-in noise reduction mechanism, which works most effectively when it receives sound input from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with a high-quality hearing aid, it becomes challenging to hear clearly in noisy environments as your brain attempts to process all sounds, including background noise, instead of filtering them out.
For many, the main advantage of using a rechargeable hearing aid is its sheer convenience. We’ve grown accustomed to charging our phones and other devices overnight, and a rechargeable hearing aid aligns with this familiar routine.
This convenience is especially beneficial for those who have limited dexterity or finger-related issues since standard hearing aid batteries can be quite small and challenging to manipulate.
However, one drawback is that there’s no immediate solution if you forget to charge your hearing aid. In most cases, a 30-minute charge provides at least two to three hours of power, but if you tend to regularly forget to charge devices, traditional batteries might be a better fit for you.
In general, the number of channels in a hearing aid is a topic that often comes up, as they play a crucial role in improving your ability to hear and understand speech in various listening environments. Channels are frequently used by audiologists to simplify the explanation of why one hearing aid might be considered superior to another. However, the concept of channels is more intricate than it may seem.
Hearing aids serve to amplify sounds at various frequencies to different degrees. Since most people experience greater hearing loss in high frequencies compared to low frequencies, more amplification is often required in the higher ranges. These sound frequencies are categorised into separate bands or channels, with hearing aids being adjusted to deliver the precise amplification needed for each frequency level.
Having fewer channels makes this adjustment less precise and means the device is more of a basic hearing aid. Therefore, the hearing aid would offer limited additional features and is typically suitable for situations like one-on-one conversations in quiet environments.
Most modern hearing aids use channels to provide a more natural and comfortable listening experience. With precise frequency control, hearing aids can maintain the natural balance of sounds, ensuring that environmental sounds, speech and other auditory cues sound lifelike and clear.
Another example of how modern hearing aids optimise channels is automation. Hearing aids that are able to automatically adapt to various situations. For example, in a quiet environment, they will focus on speech clarity, whilst in a noisy environment they will switch to emphasising on noise reduction.
The number of channels is just one aspect to consider; the overall technology package and the way the audiologists program the devices are equally important. Different hearing aid manufacturers take diverse approaches, and the number of channels is not necessarily an indicator of quality, but how they are configurated to improve your hearing and quality of life.
It’s a really simple, hassle-free process that only takes a few steps. All you have to do is choose your hearing aids from our wide range of options, we sell all of the latest models from the top brands, but with the lowest prices in the UK.
Send us your latest hearing test results and our audiologists will then expertly program your hearing aids based on your level of hearing loss, preferences and specific needs. We will then post your hearing aids directly to you.
Once you receive your new hearing aids, our audiologists will fine-tune your devices remotely at a time that suits you. You can then enjoy better hearing on a better budget with a 60-day returns policy – so you can wear your hearing aids with confidence and peace of mind.
At The Hearing Shop, we are dedicated to providing the best customer service and care in the industry. Unlike some other online hearing aid companies, we have a full-time designating professional audiologist who remotely programs all of our customer’s hearing aids.
With 10 years of remote fitting experience, your hearing aids will be programmed by an audiologist you can trust. Giving you peace of mind and confidence that your hearing aids will be reliable and support you and your hearing.
